Puri is a sustainable, simple and user-friendly water purifier designed for low-income families in Sub-Saharan Africa. It uses the power of the sun and a new emerging technology (SWSA sheet) to purify water throughout the day. Unlike most water purifiers on the market, it doesn’t need filter cartridge replacements.
Puri incorporates a SWSA sheet (a single-step-femtosecond-laser-treated aluminium) which removes microbial and chemical contaminants to below WHO standards and speeds up the evaporation process through interfacial heating. It can purify 40L of water per day, more than enough for a family in rural Sub-Saharan Africa.
Eluo combines existing intraoral scanning with emerging AI technology to map a 3D image of your teeth and gums, then displays regions of plaque build-up.
This enables focused and enhanced brushing which improves and gives you more control over your oral hygiene.
Oral diseases such as tooth decay and gum disease affect 3.5 billion people worldwide. This is due to various reasons such as dental phobia and a lack of knowledge on how to brush teeth properly.
Eluo helps prevent these diseases by providing at-home dental check-ups. It passively integrates into the users’ daily routine through soft reminders and encourages conscious brushing by being a constant presence in the users’ life.
My placement year in industry was at Loowatt, who design waterless eco-toilets for low-income countries. I was heavily involved in the launching of a new product, where I developed valuable skills. Some of the many projects I worked on include; designing overlay stickers, building CAD models and illustrations for the IOM Manual of the new product and building/conducting test rigs.
