My series of clay animals dissolving in water calls attention to the one million species that are currently threatened with extinction. It causes us to consider how they are disappearing every day, silently and without a fight.
My work imagines the last animal of each species isolated on a planet which has killed off the rest of its kind. Blue whales song can carry up to 1,000 miles away.
Their sound waves travel 1.5 km/s, which means that even after the last whale dies, its song will continue to call out into the void left by the eradication of its species.
