Final Project

The Weaver of Dreams

My final body of work explores the beauty and art of my Persian heritage. I have been largely influenced by motifs of ancient textiles as well as the rich colour palettes and symbolism in Iranian contemporary cinema such as ‘Gabbeh’. I have expressed myself using process art, creating symbols of femininity, the circle of life and the fragility of freedom and tradition.

I have achieved this with handmade paper, inks and paints made of spices and plants used in traditional dying methods such as turmeric and indigo. My aim is to poetically evoke a sense of beauty and freedom that symbolises the interconnection that has existed between Iranian women and art until present day.
