Final Project
I designed this tactile pad for visually impaired students in mainstream education. It seamlessly transcribes text and visual information like text, graphs, and images, into one unit. It provides an portable, affordable solution that was previously inaccessible to these students. By connecting their tablets, they can actively participate in group activities and easily keep pace with their non-visually impaired peers. This empowers them to take charge of their own learning journey, eliminating the barriers that hinder their success.
Using soft skin simulation and machine learning technology, the Feel2See pad also enables visually impaired students to understand the facial expressions of their classmates. Through texture and light changes in the silicone face, students can gain an understanding of emotions that are typically challenging for them to see. This tailored approach ensures that students with VI feel included and can actively engage in conversations, creating a sense of belonging and facilitating their participation in social interactions.
Using Arduino, I created a prototype using the latex sheet as soft skin and servo motors that respond to LED lights. The servo motors speed up or slow down based on the LED light colour, which acts as the ’emotion’ – a substitute for the machine learning component that would typically recognise emotions.
A novel solution that drives a more sustainable and efficient future for the culinary industry, by allowing small businesses to access nearby restaurants to share their unused kitchen spaces and appliances. ‘Kitchpooling’ not only promotes sustainability and reduces energy consumption but also fosters a sense of community and collaboration. By embracing a sharing economy model, KitchPool empowers businesses to save costs, minimise waste, and contribute to a more sustainable future.
Imagine a world where individuals with visual impairments can perceive colours through the power of sound. My concept harnesses synesthesia, connecting colours with distinct sound frequencies or patterns, allowing the blind to experience the vibrancy of the visual world. This concept finds applications in art and design spaces like the Design Museum, creating inclusive and immersive experiences by blending tactile elements with synesthetic soundscapes. By merging tactile experiences and the perception of colour through sound, it fosters inclusivity, deeper understanding, and appreciation of design for all.
During the ’22 summer, I spent 10 weeks on the UX Design team at Goldman Sachs. It was a trans-formative experience – being part of a team bridging the gap between design and finance was rewarding and solidified my passion for UX design. I gained valuable hands-on experience, refined my design skills, and learned how to effectively collaborate within a corporate setting.
