Final Project

Breathe

Breathe tracks and regulates breathing to improve a user’s wellbeing. It provides an immersive calming experience that focuses on stimulating the parasympathetic nervous system.

The Breathe device integrates 4 proven methods of calming and mood-tracking into one product to help users with both long and short-term wellbeing.

Handheld Breathing Device

The product includes a miniaturised haptic feedback capnometer for tracking and re-regulating the user’s breath (seen left). The handheld device is used for breath-work training in the home and for acute anxiety situations on-the-go.

The Hub

The hub of the unit includes a charging dock for the breathing device, an immersive projector to show calming visuals (seen right), a smart aroma diffuser, a camera to connect with a wellbeing practitioner and speakers to emit calming sounds.

Aesthetics

The aesthetics of Breathe are centred around furnification, i.e. they are seamlessly integrated into the home environment with a discreet presence. Inspired by the shape of a meditation bowl, the device holds symbolic significance, representing tranquility and inner peace. The soft and minimalist form creates a sense of harmony, while the carefully chosen colour palette evokes a calming atmosphere. The overall design aims to blend effortlessly into any space, offering a subtle reminder of serenity and wellbeing.

Design Development

The functional prototype was constructed for user testing and feedback. Users provided valuable insights for design refinement, ensuring that end design met their needs.

During the initial ideation stage I explored various concepts and brainstormed creative ideas. Drawing inspiration from user needs and market trends.

Work Experience

During my work experience at ITL Group, I had the opportunity to contribute my industrial design expertise to the development of a casework for a blood testing machine. ITL Group specialises in offering comprehensive design and manufacturing solutions for medical devices, in-vitro diagnostics, and laboratory instruments, aiming to revolutionise healthcare and life sciences. The blood testing machine I worked on plays a critical role in detecting bloodstream infections and providing valuable information about the responsible microorganisms through microbial extraction and molecular detection using PCR. It was an enriching experience to be part of a team working on cutting-edge technology that has the potential to make a significant impact in the field of healthcare.
